This is first detailed survey of LBE theory and its applications. In Part I the basic theoretical background to LBE is presented. Part II discusses a number of selected fluid-dynamics applications (flows through porous media, flows past obstacles, turbulent flow). Part III goes "beyond" sheer fluids, and tackles flows with assorted complexities, such as chemical reactions, phase-transitions, suspended particles, polymers, and even quantum flows.
